The Red Bulls are set to face off against the Philadelphia Union at Talen Energy Stadium on Sunday, July 17 at 7 pm E.T. (TV: FS1, Radio: Red Bulls Radio in English/Spanish on TuneIn). This will be the first of three MLS meetings between New York and Philadelphia, but the Red Bulls will be looking to avenge a 2-1 defeat against the Union in the U.S. Open Cup back in June.
Here are some numbers to know ahead of Sunday’s match against the Philadelphia Union:
4: In the three MLS matches against the Union last season, Sacha Kljestan tallied four points, scoring one goal while adding two assists. After not playing Wednesday’s game against Orlando, Kljestan will likely be a key factor if the Red Bulls are going to win against the Union. New York is 5-1-1 this season when Kljestan has a goal or assist.
9: Since the Union entered the league in 2010, the Red Bulls have nine wins in 16 MLS matches against Philadelphia, which is the second-most victories in the league in that time frame. Last season, the Red Bulls won two out of three regular season games against the Union, including the one matchup in Chester.
13: The Red Bulls have not lost consecutive matches in their last 13 games. After starting the season 1-6-0 in the first seven games, New York has earned a 7-3-3 record in that 13-game period.
14: Captain Dax McCarty has 14 games played against Philadelphia in his career, which is good for second all-time behind four other players with 15 appearances. In those 14 games, McCarty has one goal and five assists.
32: With 32 goals scored this season, the Union lead the league in goals scored. After finishing last season with the second-worst goal differential, Philadelphia has the third-best goal difference so far this season. The Red Bulls will have their hands full in this game with a strong Philadelphia offense.
58,300,000: There were approximately 58.3 million visitors to New York last year while there were just 39.7 million visitors to Philadelphia in 2015.
