The New York Red Bulls kick off their 2015 MLS campaign against Sporting Kansas City on Sunday, March 8.
Here are some numbers to know ahead the Red Bulls’ opening match.
- 4.5 – Sacha Klejstan, pending selection, will make his long-awaited return to MLS after more than 4 ½ years since his last MLS match. Klejstan, who began his career with Chivas USA, scored 15 goals and supplied 33 assists in just under 4 ½ years with the club.
- 5 – The Red Bulls are undefeated in their last five matches (4-0-1), playoffs included, versus Sporting KC. Their last loss to SKC came on April 17, 2013. In the 2014 MLS Cup Playoffs knockout round, RBNY eliminated SKC when 2014 MLS Golden Boot winner Bradley Wright-Phillips scored a 90th minute game-winning goal.
- 6 – Total number of goals scored by Bradley Wright-Phillips against Sporting Kansas City in 2014, postseason included. Wright-Phillips, MLS’ all-time single-season scoring record holder with 27 goals in 2014, looks to continue upon his record season come Sunday.
- 20 – The New York Red Bulls are set to begin their 20th season in MLS. Formerly the New York/New Jersey MetroStars, the club was a member of the original 10 MLS teams in the inaugural 1996 season. - 110 – Roy Miller, pending selection, will make his 110th start as a Red Bull on Sunday, enough for ninth all-time behind Steve Jolley’s 112. It would also be his 120th game played which will tie him for tenth all-time with Jolley. Miller leads the current squad in starts and games played in a Red Bulls uniform, trailed closest by Dax McCarty with 105 starts and 110 games played.
The match will be held on March 8 at Sporting Park in Kansas City, Kan. Kick-off will be at 7:00 p.m. EDT (TV: FOX Sports 1).
