The RDS Goalie Wars event this fall, held on November 2nd, was another great success for the organization. With 82 participants, the event showcased impressive goalkeeping talent across three age groups, making it one of the most competitive challenges in recent years.
The U10 group, which allows less experienced goalkeepers, including first-timers, to get a feel for the game, was a fan favorite. Charles Vasallo, now with the New York Red Bulls Pre-Academy, successfully defended his 2023 fall title to claim the top spot once again.
The U12 group saw many familiar faces and fierce competition. Ryder Steinfeld of Hoboken United stood out in every round to take home the trophy.
The U14 group, featuring the most returners and former champions, concluded the event with a thrilling final. Sebastian Dooner of PDA earned the win with some spectacular acrobatic saves and impressive blocks.
The RDS Goalie Wars experience was capped off as winners and participants were invited to Red Bull Arena for the MLS Playoff game vs Columbus Crew on November 3rd. The goalkeepers all also had the opportunity to watch the goalkeeper warmups from the sideline in what was a memorable experience as Carlos Coronel saved three penalty kicks as the Red Bulls knocked out Columbus in a massive upset. What an evening for the young goalkeepers!
