With the schedule now officially out, we take a quick look at each one of our Group E opponents. Worth noting that the New York Red Bulls played against Atlanta and Columbus during preseason and FC Cincinnati in the home opener.
Game 1 vs. Atlanta United FC, July 11 @ 8 p.m. (FOX, TUDN)
The Red Bulls’ first preseason game was against Atlanta at IMG Academy. At the time, Atlanta was preparing for the Scotiabank Concacaf Champions League. Florian Valot scored New York’s only goal in the 2-1 loss to Atlanta. Valot went on to score three goals in the 2020 preseason.
Game 2 vs. Columbus Crew SC, July 16 @ 10:30 p.m. (FS1, TUDN)
David Jensen’s first preseason game with the Red Bulls in the United States took place against the Crew on February 20. Although New York conceded a goal early on in the game, they managed to tie it 1-1. Brian White scored the Red Bulls’ only goal that evening.
Game 3 vs. FC Cincinnati, July 22 @ 8 p.m. (ESPN/ESPN Deportes)
Led by Kyle Duncan’s goal and two assists, the Red Bulls defeated FC Cincy 3-2 on March 1. Valot contributed two assists in a game that will be remembered as the one where we saw a goalkeeper in a hat.
