As the New York Red Bulls aim to end their three-game losing streak on Friday night, head coach Jesse Marsch hopes to have the fans’ full support on matchday.
“We need a 12th man,” Marsch said after training on Wednesday. “That’s where we’re at right now. We need everybody behind this team, everyone in the organization, all our fans, we need to push this team through and help them become what we know they can be.”
The Red Bulls currently stand in fifth place of the Eastern Conference (5-6-1, 16 pts.) and welcome first place Toronto FC (7-1-4, 25 pts.) to Red Bull Arena this week.
Despite the team’s loss to LA Galaxy last weekend, which ended a 19-game unbeaten streak at home, Marsch pointed to Red Bull Arena as a ‘place where we’re very good.’
“The support we get from our fans is always at such a high level,” Marsch said. “I apologized to the fans after Sunday’s performance…we’ve been a really fun team at home. Over the last two years, even you could go back the last eight years, and say that this team has been fun to watch when we play at home.”
New York has the best home record in MLS dating back to 2010 (79-24-19) and Marsch hopes that the home-field advantage will help put his team over the top on Friday.
“We want our supporters groups to come out in big numbers,” Marsch said. “It’ll be a beautiful Friday night, it’ll be a great chance for everybody to enjoy the night and most importantly, support our team, support our guys.”
