Thierry Henry returned to Red Bull Arena on Sunday night to see the New York Red Bulls claim the Atlantic Cup with a 1-0 win over D.C. United.
"It's always great when he's around here," Head Coach Chris Armas said after the match. "He's always, you know, giving his thoughts, and we talked about the World Cup and his team, and congratulated him there."
Henry appeared in 122 games with the Red Bulls, between 2010 and 2014, with 51 goals and 42 assists.
Bradley Wright-Phillips, who was his teammate in 2014, was thrilled to see Thierry back in attendance.
"It's amazing," Wright-Phillips said. "I wanted to get a goal. I think I was thinking about it too much, so I missed a sitter late in the game. He's so knowledgeable about the game and such a nice guy. Titi doesn't change. He's an honest man."
Luis Robles, another teammate of Henry with the Red Bulls, joked that he winked at Thierry after making a save on Wayne Rooney during the match.
"It's great to have him back because he's an important part of our history," Robles said. "He helped lay the foundation. He's one of the cornerstones to help propel us forward."
Armas said that Henry is still a fan of the club and is always welcome around the team.
"We caught up a bit," Armas said. "He watches a lot of our games. So yeah, he can see -- and when you talk to him, you can see how much he knows about our team -- how much he appreciates our team; we talk about with the ball, against the ball. Always good to catch up with him. He's always welcome around here and we're going to catch up after, as well."
