THE WEEKLY: Red Bulls host Arsenal on Saturday

RED BULLS HOST ARSENAL ON SATURDAY AT RED BULL ARENA AT 5:00 PM
Following three games in eight days, the New York Red Bulls have a break from MLS regular-season action this week as they prepare to take on English Premier League side and 2014 FA Cup Champion Arsenal FC in the New York Cup. The international exhibition is set for 5:00 PM this Saturday at Red Bull Arena. The match will be televised live on ESPN2 and ESPN Deportes.


The match pits current New York captain and legendary former Arsenal forward Thierry Henry against the club where he scored a record 226 goals in all competitions. The game will be Arsenal's only match on its visit to the United States. The Arsenal first team last visited the United States for an exhibition match with Independiente of Argentina in Miami, Florida in 1989. It will be Arsenal’s second encounter with the Red Bulls in three years, following a 1-1 draw at the 2011 Emirates Cup.

New York Red Bulls midfielder Tim Cahill and Golden Boot leader Bradley Wright-Phillips were added by coach Caleb Porter to the MLS All-Star Team that will face FC Bayern Munich on Wednesday, August 6 at Providence Park at 9:00 PM. The Red Bulls offense has been impressive this season and has shown no signs of slowing down since the league returned to action after the 2014 FIFA World Cup Break. New York is currently tied for second in goals scored:

WRIGHT-PHILLIPS MAKES IT FIVE CONSECUTIVE GAMES WITH A GOAL




Bradley Wright-Phillips scored two goals in two games for New York last week, maintaining his lead atop the MLS Golden Boot Race. The forward now has 17 goals in 19 appearances (16 starts) for the Red Bulls this season.

The Englishman has now scored in five consecutive games for the Red Bulls, dating back to June 27 against Toronto FC. Wright-Phillips has scored six goals in that stretch with one two-goal performance against the Houston Dynamo on July 4.

Entering Week 20 of the MLS regular season, three Red Bulls players lead the league in goals, assists and saves. Bradley Wright-Phillips leads the Golden Boot race with 17 goals, three ahead of Kansas City’s Dom Dwyer and Chivas USA’s Erick Torres.
