Harrison, N.J. (June 13, 2023) - Voting is open for the 2023 MLS All-Star game presented by Target. Fans can now vote online for who they want to see face off against Arsenal FC on July 19 at Audi Field in Washington, D.C.
One player to watch from New York is left-back John Tolkin.
The Chatham, N.J. native has been instrumental for the Red Bulls this season, helping to create a solid defensive line that has tallied four clean sheets and conceded only 16 goals in 17 matches, third lowest in the MLS.
On the defensive end, Tolkin has tallied 26 clearances, four blocks and 16 interceptions for New York in his 15 starts this season. He also leads the Red Bulls with 56 tackles won over his career.
On the opposite end of the pitch, Tolkin leads the Red Bulls with a career-high four assists this season. His 21 key passes also put him at the top of the Red Bull ranks, second only to Cristian Cásseres Jr. with 29.
Tolkin was named the must-watch left-back in the MLS prior to the start of the season, and his performance has delivered, earning him Team of the Matchday honors for Matchday 10 and Team of the Matchday bench for Matchday 13.
At only 20 years old, Tolkin was listed on the MLS’s Young Players of the Matchday four times this season.
His performance has also launched him onto the international stage, debuting for the U.S. Men’s National Team in January 2023 against Colombia and teammate Andrès Reyes.
In June, Tolkin was also named to the USMNT roster for the 2023 CONCACAF Gold Cup.
After coming up through Red Bull Academy, being signed to a Homegrown contract in 2020, and making his MLS debut in May 2021, Tolkin has become one of the key players on the New York squad.
26 players will be selected for the MLS All-Star squad, including 12 selected by fans, 12 selected by MLS All-Star head coach Wayne Rooney, and two selected by MLS Commissioner Don Garber.
