More than 450 times in his career, Alessandro Del Piero has pulled on the black and white of his Juventus kit to represent the Serie A side. Now, New York fans have hope that he will pull on their red, white and blue jersey at some point in his career too.
Juventus’ North American offseason tour brought the Old Lady to Red Bull Arena on Friday afternoon to train ahead of Sunday’s friendly against New York. In April, reports out of Italy had linked Del Piero with a move to the Red Bulls, something that the player had since denied. Now, the striker is leaving his options wide open.
“I actually have no idea, perhaps next time I’ll come here on holiday,” the striker said Friday at Juve's press conference. “For sure, I know that next year, I’ll be wearing the Juventus jersey,” Del Piero said. “Then next year, who knows?"
Also part of the Turin club’s tour was former French national team striker David Trezeguet. A teammate of Thierry Henry for several years while with the national team, Trezeguet seemed to be aware of the rumors linking Henry to a move to Red Bull Arena but didn’t offer much else. Trezeguet has represented France 71 times in international competition, many of those partnered up top with Henry.
“I actually don’t know much about it,” Trezeguet said about the rumors. “I know very much he wants an experience here in the United States. I don’t know if it will be next year.”
