HANOVER, N.J. – Head coach Jesse Marsch revealed that defender Ronald Zubar has undergone hernia surgery to correct a groin injury suffered just minutes into New York’s 2-2 draw with D.C. United on September 11.

“Ronald had surgery yesterday, but we think it’s a two-to-three week issue,” Marsch told reporters after training.

Since joining the Red Bulls ahead of the 2015 season, Zubar had dealt with his share of nagging injuries that kept him sidelined for large stretches of time, but the Frenchman has had a sensational year in 2016.

This season, the Red Bulls have gone 10-2-8 when Zubar has appeared in a match, and the side has never lost when he pairs alongside Aurelien Collin in the center of the defense.

In his stead, the team will look to Damien Perrinelle who is finding his form after an injury-plagued season. The Red Bulls can also call upon Aaron Long, who was recently promoted from the USL team to the first team and has made two starts next to Collin in Scotiabank CONCACAF Champions League play.
