USL Match Recap: Red Bulls II Concede Late, Fall to Ottawa

NYRB II 5.20 Recap

Montclair, N.J. (May 20, 2017) – In a match that saw five cautions issued and seven goals scored, New York Red Bulls II conceded a late goal in the 90th minute falling to Ottawa Fury FC, 4-3, at MSU Soccer Park on the campus of Montclair State University, Saturday.

Ottawa would strike first in the 14th minute as NYRB II goalkeeper Evan Louro nearly made a double-save to deny Tucker Hume, but his denial wasn’t enough.

New York responded three minutes later as Brandon Allen caught the Ottawa goalkeeper off his line on a 50/50 ball and unselfishly passed it off to Junior Flemmings who knocked it into an open net.

Red Bulls Academy player Ben Mines came on in the first half as a substitute and nearly made an impact just before halftime with a diving header that was saved.

Ottawa would re-gain the lead in the 51st minute, as Ottawa’s Seoane would send a lofting shot over Louro’s head.

The action wouldn’t stop there, as Vincent Bezecourt would draw a crafty penalty-kick inside the 18-yard box. Brandon Allen would remain perfect on the year burying his penalty kick attempt.

Red Bulls II took the lead in the 69th minute off a powerful header from the head of Mines, his first on the year.

Ottawa would draw level in the 87th minute off a defensive breakdown, then concede a penalty kick in the 90th minute off a loose ball in the 18.

NYRB II return home next Sunday, May 28, for a 2 p.m. kickoff at MSU Soccer Park against the Charleston Battery.
