Get to Know: Wikelman Carmona

The New York Red Bulls’ new signing, Wikelman Carmona, comes from Guárico, a state in Venezuela located south of the capital Caracas. In the 2019 South American Under-17 Championship, he wore La Vinotinto’s no. 10. 


Carmona, born in 2003, arrives in New York after playing for Venezuela’s Dynamo FC Margarita Academy. 


The 17-year-old is a left-footed midfielder, capable to play as a central attacking midfielder or in either of the flanks. 


Other creative midfielders that have come from Venezuela include Juan Arango, who played for clubs like Bundesliga’s Borussia Mönchengladbach and La Liga’s Mallorca, and Yeferson Soteldo, who’s currently the no. 10 of Brazilian giants, Santos FC. 


Carmona scored one of La Vinotinto’s five goals in its 5-3 win over Bolivia in the first stage of the 2019 South American Under-17 Championship.
