New York Red Bulls II midfielder Cherif Dieye was drafted by the New York Red Bulls with the 15th overall pick in the 2020 MLS SuperDraft. He signed his first professional contract with NYRB II on March 2, 2020 after a four-year career at the University of Louisville.

Q. What has been the best moment of your soccer career so far?
Dieye: I have had many great moments during my soccer career, but the best has to be being drafted by the New York Red Bulls, while being an international.
Q. What was the biggest change you had to make from college to the professional level?
Dieye: I did not have to make many changes. It really has just been about adapting to a new schedule and a faster and sharper atmosphere.
Q. You have had your first preseason, what is some advice the older guys have given you?
Dieye: I remember Sean [Davis] telling me to keep learning the system and watching from outside the field, it worked, I started to fit in much more easily and became more comfortable.
Q. What is your favorite pre-game music?
Dieye: I like listening to Senegalese or Jamaican songs before a match.
Q. What do you like to do when you’re not training or playing soccer?
Dieye: I just like to read, talk to my family, and do active recovery.
Q. Was there a player that you grew up admiring when you were younger?
Dieye: I would say that Ronaldinho made me love this game, but Iniesta fascinated me too.
Q. What is your favorite movie of all time?
Dieye: The Great Gatsby is still the best.
Q. Who is your favorite club to support?
Dieye: Of course, the greatest club in the world, FC Barcelona.
Q. With the return to play date announced, what were your initial thoughts?
Dieye: I just said to myself “let the hostilities begin, we’ll have fun…”
