New York Red Bulls II midfielder Ibrahim Kasule continued exactly where he left off last season by earning the Player of the Month Award for March to start the 2024 MLS NEXT Pro regular season, the league announced today. He officially became the first player in the league’s history to win the award three separate times.
Kasule received the award for his impressive play in the club’s first two matches against Columbus Crew 2 and Inter Miami CF II. The Ugandan national recorded two goals and two assists in that span to earn the top honor in the league for the month.
Starting with the season opening match against Columbus, Kasule put on a masterful passing display in the midfield by orchestrating both goals that New York scored in the 2-0 victory. One of those assists was a perfect outside of the foot pass to find a streaking Roald Mitchell for the breakaway finish.
Following up his two-assist performance, the 20-year-old continued his form the week after in New York’s home opener against Inter Miami CF II. Kasule scored two goals in the contest, one of which coming from the penalty spot to continue his perfect 7-for-7 record on such shots since joining the club last season.
This is the third time that Kasule has earned the honor in his two seasons with Red Bulls II. Since joining the club, the midfielder has recorded 20 goals and eight assists across all competitions and earned the Player of the Month award in MLS NEXT Pro in the months of July and August last season.
Kasule will look to continue his form in MLS NEXT Pro as New York gets set to face New York City FC II on Wednesday, April 10, at Belson Stadium. Kickoff for the match is scheduled for 7:30 p.m. ET with coverage available on MLSNEXTPro.com
