New York Red Bulls II forward Luther Archimede made his debut against the Charleston Battery on Friday, August 20, coming on in the 66th minute. Archimede, who signed with NYRB II in April, was selected 13th overall by the New York Red Bulls during the 2021 MLS SuperDraft back in January.
“I’m excited to be back on the field to help my teammates and to finally be playing for this club,” Archimede said. “I just want to have more games, score some goals, and maybe win some games to move up in ranking.”
The former Syracuse striker played on the international stage this summer prior to making his debut, representing his home nation of Guadeloupe.
“When I was with my national team playing in the Gold Cup, it was an amazing feeling,” Archimede said. “The Gold Cup is something huge for our country. It had been 10 years that we didn’t participate, and it was a huge experience playing with some professional guys who had played like 300 games as well as playing against some great nations. It was a good experience, but I’m happy to be back and to be helping the team.”
Archimede made three appearances, coming on as a substitute in the Preliminary Round as well as their first Group Stage match. He earned his first start in their second Group Stage match against Jamaica.
Now that he is back with NYRB II, he is looking to take some of the things he learned during his time at the Gold Cup and apply them to his USL Championship matches.
“It’s just about the intensity, even in practice with the intensity and the communication,” Archimede said. “When you bring intensity the delivery goes higher, so I think that and the fighting spirit are the most important things in soccer.”
New York Red Bulls II will travel to face The Miami FC on Sunday, August 29. Kickoff from FIU Stadium is set for 6:30 p.m. ET, with coverage on ESPN+.
