HARRISON, N.J. (August 19, 2021) – New York Red Bulls II (3-10-4, 13 points) hosts Charleston Battery (7-7-3, 24 points) on Friday, August 20 at MSU Soccer Park. Kickoff between New York and Charleston is set for 7 p.m. ET. Coverage is available on ESPN+.
The clubs have met twice this season, with both matches ending in a draw. On May 7, forward Jake LaCava struck in the 10th minute to give New York an early advantage, but Charleston equalized midway through the second half to split the points at MSU Soccer Park. A few weeks later, New York erased a two-goal halftime deficit for a 2-2 draw at Patriots Point on May 23.
New York last played on August 10, as it fell 3-2 to the Charlotte Independence. Forward Omar Sowe recorded his first multi-goal match of the season, scoring once in each half to bring his season total to a team-high six.
Sowe is tied for ninth in the Eastern Conference for goals, and midfielder Jeremy Rafanello is tied for seventh in the USL Championship for assists with five.
New York currently sits in seventh place of the Atlantic Division, while Charleston ranks sixth. They are coming off a 2-1 loss to Hartford Athletic on Tuesday, August 17, and will play their second match in four days on Friday night.
Following Friday’s match, New York will travel to face Miami FC on Sunday, August 29. Kickoff from FIU Stadium is set for 6:30 p.m. ET.
