HARRISON, N.J. (July 15, 2021) – New York Red Bulls II (3-6-4, 13 points) travels to face Charlotte Independence (5-6-1, 16 points) on Saturday, July 17. Kickoff between Charlotte and New York is set for 7 p.m. ET. Coverage is available on ESPN+.
New York has recorded a point or more in four of its last five matches, including the first two of the road trip. Their most recent match was a 2-2 draw against Hartford Athletic on Saturday, July 10.
This will be the third meeting of the season between New York and Charlotte. The first came on Wednesday, June 16, as NYRB II won 3-1. On Wednesday, July 7, NYRB II defeated Charlotte, 3-2, after trailing 2-1 at the half. Forward Omar Sowe tied the match in the 70th minute and midfielder Austin Brummett scored his first professional goal nine minutes later to complete the comeback.
Sowe recorded two goals and his first assist of the season last week, which earned him a spot on the USL Championship Team of the Week.
New York currently sits in sixth place of the Atlantic Division, while Charlotte ranks fifth. They are coming off a 1-1 draw against Phoenix Rising FC on Saturday, July 10.
Following Saturday’s match, New York will return home to face Pittsburgh Riverhounds SC on Friday, July 23. Kickoff from MSU Soccer Park is set for 7 p.m. ET
