HARRISON, N.J. (March 15, 2022) – New York Red Bulls II (0-1-0, 0 points) will continue its two-match road trip on Wednesday, March 16, as it travels to face Atlanta United 2 (0-1-0, 0 points). Kickoff from Fifth Third Bank Stadium is scheduled for 7:30 p.m. ET, with coverage available on ESPN+.
New York will look to bounce back after falling 2-0 to Miami FC on Saturday, March 12. The match saw the club debuts of five players, with three also making their professional debuts. Goalkeeper AJ Marcucci made his tenth-consecutive start in net dating back to September 19, 2021.
Atlanta fell 1-0 in its season opener to Louisville City FC on March 12. The club returned its 2021 leading scorer, Aiden McFadden, and assist leader, Robbie Mertz. It also added former New England Revolution Homegrown Player Nicolas Firmino, a teammate of Red Bulls II midfielder John Murphy at Union Omaha last year.
New York leads the all-time series 3-2-0 with Atlanta winning the most recent meeting, 5-3, in September of 2020. Three of the five meetings between the clubs have featured a combined seven or more goals, including the last two. New York defeated Atlanta 8-1 in July of 2019, which remains the club record for goals in a match as well as margin of victory.
Red Bulls II has scored 21 goals during those five matches and holds a +10 goal differential in those meetings. The 21 goals rank fourth in club history for goals against an opposing club.
