New York will look to bounce back after suffering a 2-1 defeat to the Tampa Bay Rowdies on Friday, August 6. Forward Jake LaCava opened the scoring in the 9th minute as he ripped a shot from just inside the box that went to the back post. Tampa Bay evened the score in the 33rd minute off a corner kick and took the lead two minutes into the second half. New York narrowly missed a chance to tie the match in the 66th minute.
Tuesday’s match marks the second in the span of eight days at MSU Soccer Park, and the second of a four-match homestand for New York.
The two clubs will meet for the third time in 2021, with New York leading the season series 2-0-0. They defeated Charlotte 3-1 on Wednesday, June 16 behind two goals from midfielder Jeremy Rafanello. In the second meeting, New York overcame a 2-1 halftime deficit to defeat Charlotte 3-2 on Wednesday, July 7.
New York currently sits in seventh place of the Atlantic Division, while Charlotte ranks sixth. They are coming off a scoreless draw against Loudoun United FC on Friday, August 6.
Following Tuesday’s match, New York will host San Antonio FC on Saturday, August 14. Kickoff from MSU Soccer Park is set for 7:00 p.m. ET.
