HARRISON, N.J. (August 27, 2022) – New York Red Bulls II (3-18-4, 13 points) will travel to face Birmingham Legion FC on Sunday, August 28, at Protective Stadium. Kickoff is set for 5:00 p.m. ET with coverage on ESPN+.
Red Bulls II will look to build off its 2-2 draw against Pittsburgh Riverhounds SC on Saturday, August 20, at Highmark Stadium. After going down 2-0 late in the first half, New York rallied behind goals from John Murphy and Wiki Carmona to earn a road point.
Murphy has scored a goal or recorded an assist in each of New York’s last three matches. He is tied for third on the team in goals and ranks second in assists.
Birmingham defeated Memphis 901 FC, 4-2, on Saturday, August 20, at AutoZone Park. The club has won seven of its last nine matches, and is led by Enzo Martínez, who has 10 goals on the season. Goalkeeper Matt Van Oekel ranks sixth in USL Championship with 62 saves.
The match will mark the fourth all-time meeting between the two clubs, with Birmingham claiming the last two following a New York victory in the first meeting in 2019. On May 27, Birmingham defeated New York, 2-1, at MSU Soccer Park on goals from Martínez and Marlon Santos. Jordan Adebayo-Smith scored the goal for Red Bulls II.
New York sits 14th in the Eastern Conference, while Birmingham ranks 4th.
