New York will look to bounce back as it fell in its last match to the Charleston Battery, 3-2, on Friday, August 20. Forward Mathias Jørgensen scored his first goal of the season in his first start of the 2021 campaign. Forward Serge Ngoma scored his first professional goal in the contest, and goalkeeper Luca Lewis recorded six saves.
The two clubs have met twice this season, both taking place at MSU Soccer Park. Miami defeated New York, 1-0, on May 14 in the first-ever meeting between the two sides. A few months later, they played to a 1-1 draw on July 2 in a match that featured multiple weather delays.
The match marks the first-ever trip to Miami for New York, and they will travel there again on Sunday, October 24 to round out the season series.
New York currently sits in seventh place of the Atlantic Division, while Miami ranks third. They defeated Hartford Athletic, 2-0, in their last match on Sunday, August 22.
Following Sunday’s match, New York will remain on the road to take on Pittsburgh Riverhounds SC on Wednesday, September 1. Kickoff from Highmark Stadium is set for 6:00 p.m. ET.
