HARRISON, N.J. (September 2, 2022) – New York Red Bulls II (3-19-5, 14 points) will travel to face the Charleston Battery (4-17-6, 18 points) on Saturday, September 3, at Patriots Point. Kickoff is slated for 7:00 p.m. ET with coverage on ESPN+.
The match will mark the 18th meeting between the two sides in their history, a series dating back to 2015. New York holds a 6-3-8 advantage in the all-time series, but Charleston claimed the first meeting between the sides this season, 3-1, on August 12 at MSU Soccer Park. Red Bulls II took the last meeting at Patriots Point, 3-2, on September 22, 2021.
New York will conclude a three match in seven days stretch on Saturday night. The club will look to build off a 3-3 draw against Hartford Athletic on Wednesday, August 31. Jonathan Filipe recorded his first professional goal and brace in the match. Red Bulls II scored the fastest goal in club history from Jesús Castellano just 18 seconds into the match.
Charleston is coming off a scoreless draw against Pittsburgh Riverhounds SC on Wednesday, August 31, at Highmark Stadium. Daniel Kuzemka tallied three saves in what was the club’s third clean sheet of the campaign. The Battery are led by Augustine Williams, who is tied for fifth in USL Championship with 13 goals.
New York has had eight different goal scorers over its last five matches. Jordan Adebayo-Smith has recorded a goal or an assist in each of New York’s last three matches. Additionally, O’Vonte Mullings has tallied an assist in two of the team’s last three matches.
New York ranks 14th in the Eastern Conference, while Charleston ranks 12th.
Following the match, New York will return home to face Miami FC on Friday, September 9. Kickoff at MSU Soccer Park is scheduled for 7:00 p.m. ET with coverage available on ESPN+.
