HARRISON, N.J. (April 13, 2024) - New York Red Bulls II (3-0-1 11 pts.) are set for a 2023 Eastern Conference Quarterfinal rematch against Chicago Fire FC II (1-0-2 7 pts.) at MSU Soccer Park. Kickoff is scheduled for 5:00 p.m. ET with coverage available on MLSNEXTPro.com
Red Bulls II are coming off a gritty performance on the road in a 1-0 win against New York City FC II this past Wednesday. Roald Mitchell scored the match’s lone goal in the 66th minute from the penalty spot to tie the current league lead in goals with four. Goalkeeper Alan Rutkowski put on a fantastic performance in net to record New York’s second clean sheet of the season.
Chicago is coming off a statement victory of their own, having taken down Crown Legacy FC. Fire II came out on top, 2-0, thanks to goals from Diego Konicks and David Poreba. Jeffrey Gal was in net to assist in shutting out the reigning #1 seed in the Eastern Conference from 2023.
These two clubs have no shortage of history between them in only one season of play against each other. In 2023, New York was able to have the edge in the three matches that these sides competed in last season. Most recently, Red Bulls II put on a dominant showing in the Eastern Conference Quarterfinal match at MSU soccer Park. New York came out on top, 4-1, after being led by a brace from MLS NEXT Pro Best XI recipient, Ibrahim Kasule.
New York Red Bulls II are on an incredible run to start their 2024 season in MLS NEXT Pro. The club is now unbeaten in their first four matches, marking only the third time the club has accomplished the feat in league play across ten seasons (2016, 2019). This is also the second-time in franchise history that the club has won their first three road matches to open up a season (2016).
