MATCH RECAP: New York Red Bulls II Earn a Point on the Road in a 6-7 Penalty Kick Shootout Loss to Chattanooga FC

New York Red Bulls II (10-12-6, 40 pts) earned a point at Chattanooga FC (9-9-10, 45 pts) in a 6-7 penalty kick shootout loss after a 1-1 draw on Sunday afternoon at Finley Stadium.

Chattanooga FC opened the scoring in the sixth minute of the match, when forward Taylor Gray whipped in a cross into the six-yard box that was struck into the bottom left corner of the net by midfielder Callum Watson.

New York leveled the score in the 68th minute as defender Omar Valencia, midfielder Aiden Jarvis and forward Tanner Rosborough combined for three one touch passes that was completed by midfielder Malick Dembele, who laced a shot from the top of the box into the bottom left corner.

The two sides were level at one after 90 minutes and proceeded to a nine-round penalty kick shootout. New York Goalkeeper Alan Rutkowski made two penalty kick saves but it was not enough as Chattanooga won the shootout 7-6.

Midfielder Dembele scored his second goal of the season and tallied his sixth goal contribution.

Forward Rosborough dished his third assist of the year and 10th goal contribution.

Goalkeeper Rutkowski made his ninth appearance of the season and made six saves which is the sixth-most saves in a single match in club history.

Goalkeeper Dallas Odle made his second start of the season and made three saves.

The goalkeeping duo of Rutkowski and Odle combined for nine saves on the day. This total is tied with Giannis Nikopolidis for third-most saves in a single match in club history.

Defender Aidan O’Connor made his 24th start of the season, which is tied with Ethan Kutler, Chris Lema, and Hassan Ndam for eighth-most single season starts in club history.

Forward Frank Ssebufu made his 10th start of the season.

This was New York’s final match of the MLS NEXT Pro season. The club finished in 11th place in the Eastern Conference with 40 points.
