MONTCLAIR, N.J. (October 20, 2021) – New York Red Bulls II (6-17-7, 24 points) defeated Loudoun United FC (4-22-3, 15 points) 3-0 on Wednesday, October 20 at MSU Soccer Park.
New York opened the scoring in the 19th minute when defender Juan Castillo put a cross into the box, where forward Luther Archimede volleyed the ball over Loudoun’s goalkeeper. In the 37th minute, goalkeeper AJ Marcucci recorded his third penalty kick save of the season to maintain the lead for New York.
In the opening minutes of the second half, defender Mandela Egbo was taken down in the box, earning a penalty kick for New York. Forward Cameron Harper stepped up and scored his first professional goal to double the advantage for the home side. Nine minutes later, Harper played a long ball across the field to hit Egbo, who sent the ball to the far post to score New York’s third goal of the contest.
New York has earned results in four of its last five matches (1-1-3).
The goal for Archimede was his third of the season, and he has scored in three of New York’s last four matches. Egbo’s goal was his fourth of the season and the first in the run of play after converting three penalty kicks earlier in the year.
Marcucci recorded his second clean sheet of the season and ranks second in the USL Championship in penalty kick saves.
The match was the home finale for New York, as they will finish out the 2021 season on the road with two matches to go. They will travel to face Miami FC on Sunday, October 24 at Riccardo Silva Stadium. Kickoff is scheduled for 7:30 p.m. ET with coverage available on ESPN+.
