MONTCLAIR, N.J. (April 10, 2023) - New York Red Bulls II (0-1-2, 3 pts.) fall in their match against Crown Legacy FC (2-0-1, 7 pt.) by a final score of 3-1 at MSU Soccer Park last night.
Red Bulls II experienced their first loss of the season after taking a 1-0 lead in the eighth minute off a Wiki Carmona goal. The goal, which was Carmona’s third of the season, came off a great passing play from Frank Ssebuufu and Daniel Edelman to find the Venezuelan forward for his third goal in as many games for New York this season.
The rest of the first half was full of chances for both teams, with Amos Shapiro-Thompson, Oladayo Thomas, and Frank Ssebuufu all getting high scoring opportunities. Goalkeeper AJ Marcucci made a fantastic save in the 22nd minute from close range to keep New York in the lead.
It was a tale of two halves for New York, as things began to unravel in the 52nd minute. Crown Legacy evened the score when Adam Armour sent in a cross from the near side of the field that was headed in by Iuri Tavares. Five minutes later, the visitors took the lead as Armour played another ball to Tavares from the edge of the box.
The two sides traded chances as Crown Legacy held on to a 2-1 lead, but New York was not able to find the back of the net to grab the equalizer. The visitors doubled their lead in the 78th minute, when Hamady Diop played a long pass across midfield to Markó Filipovic, who ripped a shot into the far corner of the net off a breakaway.
Substitutions for New York included Jayden Reid, Curtis Ofori, Henry Wise, and Ibrahim Kasule. Wise and Kasule made their first appearances for Red Bulls II this season, with this match being Kasule’s debut for the club.
Red Bulls II are back in action on April 16th as they look to bounce back against Huntsville City FC at MSU Soccer Park, kickoff is scheduled for 7:00 p.m. ET. Coverage will be available with MLS Season Pass on Apple TV.
