Match Recap: NYRB II Falls to Loudoun United FC in Home Opener, 3-0

MONTCLAIR, NJ (March 19, 2022) – New York Red Bulls II (1-2-0, 3 points) fell to Loudoun United FC (2-0-0, 6 points) 3-0 on Saturday, March 19, at MSU Soccer Park.

After a strong start from New York, the club was reduced to 10 men following a red card in the 26th minute. Both clubs traded chances as the half began to wind down. Goalkeeper AJ Marcucci recorded three saves in the final minutes to keep the match scoreless at the break.

Loudoun broke through early in the second half, as forward Tyler Freeman found the back of the net off a feed from midfielder Michael Gamble. Freeman struck again in the 60th minute as he capitalized on a pass from midfielder Jeremy Garay following a quick restart. The visitors added one more in the 76th minute from midfielder Jacob Greene.

Marcucci recorded a career-high eight saves in the match. He made his 12th consecutive start for Red Bulls II dating back to September 19, 2021.

New York Red Bulls forward Zach Ryan made his Red Bulls II debut in the match, logging 69 minutes.

New York is now 3-3-2 all-time in home openers.

Red Bulls II will remain at home to face Louisville City FC on Wednesday, March 23. The match will conclude a stretch for New York of four matches over a 12-day span. Kickoff from MSU Soccer Park is set for 7:00 p.m. ET, with coverage available on ESPN+.
