MONTCLAIR, NJ (March 23, 2022) – New York Red Bulls II (1-3-0, 3 points) fell to Louisville City FC (3-0-0, 9 points) 2-0 on Wednesday, March 23, at MSU Soccer Park. The meeting marked the first between the two sides since 2019.
Louisville opened the scoring in the 18th minute. Following a scramble in the box, midfielder Ray Serrano capitalized on a loose ball and found the back of the net.
New York responded with a few strong scoring chances. In the 26th minute, forward Zach Ryan sent in a cross to the feet of midfielder Jason Pendant, who ripped a shot that went just high of the net. A few minutes later, the New York press generated a turnover, leading to a shot from forward Serge Ngoma that took a deflection and just missed the top portion of the net.
Following a New York red card in the 87th minute, forward Wilson Harris scored off the following free kick to double the Louisville advantage.
Goalkeeper AJ Marcucci tallied four saves in the contest, increasing his league-leading total to 16 through four matches. He moved past Santiago Castaño for second in club history (84).
The match marked the conclusion of a stretch for New York in which it played a league-leading four matches in the opening 12 days of the season.
