MIAMI, FL (October 24, 2021) – New York Red Bulls II (6-18-7, 25 points) fell to Miami FC (15-9-7, 52 points) 2-0 on Sunday, October 24 at Riccardo Silva Stadium.
Miami opened the scoring in the 18th minute, as midfielder Josh Pérez sent in a cross from the far side of the field that forward Adonijah Reid directed into the New York net.
In the 82nd minute, New York almost equalized as forward Omar Sowe won possession of the ball and found midfielder Jake LaCava on a quick counterattack. LaCava turned and immediately shot the ball, forcing Miami to make a key save.
A minute later, Miami doubled their advantage as forward Christiano François maneuvered into the box and placed the ball low into the far post.
Midfielder Steven Sserwadda made his first career start with New York, logging a season-high 70 minutes. LaCava made his 30th appearance of the season, becoming the fifth player in club history to appear in 30 or more matches in a single season.
New York will travel to face Loudoun United FC on Saturday, October 30, in what will be the 2021 season finale for both sides. Kickoff from Segra Field is set for 1:00 p.m. ET with coverage available on ESPN+.
