CHANDLER, AZ (October 1, 2022) – New York Red Bulls II (3-23-6, 15 points) fell to Phoenix Rising FC (11-15-6, 39 points) 5-1 on Saturday, October 1, at Wild Horse Pass.
The home side opened the scoring in the second minute, as Gabi Torres collected a pass from Aodhan Quinn, wove through the defense, and sent in a shot from just outside the box. Quinn converted a penalty kick in the 23rd minute to double Phoenix’s advantage.
Phoenix added another in the 73rd minute, as Baboucarr Njie surged by the defense off a throw-in and scored. The home side scored in the 84th minute as J.J. Williams drew the defense after making a run off a through ball. Williams played a pass across the box to Richmond Antwi, who sent in a shot.
New York struck in the 88th minute, as Jordan Adebayo-Smith found the back of the net after collecting a loose ball in the box. The goal was his team-leading seventh of the season and 11th of his USL Championship career.
Phoenix scored in second half stoppage time on a shot from Williams.
Red Bulls Academy goalkeeper Alan Rutkowski made his professional debut in the match, becoming the youngest goalkeeper in club history to start a match.
Omar Valencia made his Red Bulls II debut and logged 71 minutes.
