New York Red Bulls II Acquire Costa Rican International Andy Rojas on Loan from C.S. Herediano

New York Red Bulls II have acquired Costa Rican International Andy Rojas on loan from C.S. Herediano through the 2025 season with an option to buy in 2026 pending visa and registration approval, the club announced today.

“Andy is a young, talented player that has not only shown his quality in the Primera Division in Costa Rica, but also with the Costa Rican National Team” said Sporting Director Julian De Guzman. “We are very excited to add Andy to our organization and cannot wait for him to get started with our club this season.”

Rojas, 19, joins New York after spending the last three years with C.S. Herediano, which plays in the Primera Division in Costa Rica. Rojas has made 85 career appearances for the club and has recorded 15 goals and six assists. He made his professional debut for the club on September 3, 2022, in a 5-0 victory over Guadalupe and he scored his first career professional goal on August 27, 2023, against Alajuelense. This season, Rojas has made 22 appearances and scored four goals.

The Grecia, Costa Rica native won the 2024-25 Primera Division Apertura Playoff with C.S. Herediano, and he also won the 2024-25 Costa Rican Super Cup. Rojas scored the game-tying goal in the match that would send C.S. Herediano to penalty kicks with Saprissa.

In the 2023-24 season, Rojas scored eight goals during the campaign and helped the club finish second in the Primera Division Clausura and helped C.S. Herediano qualify for the 2024 CONCACF Champions Cup, where he made five appearances and scored one goal.

“We are thrilled to add Andy to our club for this upcoming season. He is an attacking player that presents very good dribbling qualities,” said Head Coach Ibrahim Sekagya. “We are looking forward to working with Andy on the pitch and help him continue his development.”

Rojas has made five career appearances with the Costa Rica National Team, where he has scored one goal in 120 minutes played. He made his debut for Costa Rica on June 6, 2024, against Saint Kitts and Nevis in a 2026 FIFA World Cup Qualifying match. He scored three minutes into his debut and became the youngest Costa Rican player to score in a World Cup Qualifier at 18 years, 184 days old. His most recent appearance for Costa Rica was on January 23, 2025, where he made his first career start for the national team against United States in a international friendly match. Rojas has also made six appearances for Costa Rica U-20 and U-23 sides, including four appearances at the 2024 U-20 CONCACAF Championships, where he recorded two goals and two assists.
