HARRISON, N.J. (January 23, 2025) – New York Red Bulls II have acquired defender Juan Gutierrez on loan from Academia Alemana Popayan through the 2025 season pending visa and registration approval, the club announced today.
“We are excited to have Juan [Gutierrez] back with the squad,” said Head Coach Ibrahim Sekagya “he is an aggressive and hardworking defender. He is the ultimate competitor. And he will provide help to our backline.”
Gutierrez has made 45 appearances, including 38 starts with New York over the past two seasons, scoring three goals and tallying one assist. The defender scored the game winning goal in a 2-1 win over Inter Miami CF II on May 3, 2024, to earn his first career MLS NEXT Pro goal, and tallied his first MLS NEXT Pro assist in a 2-1 win over Toronto FC II on June 9, 2024. He made his club debut in a 1-0 win against New England Revolution II on April 21, 2023.
The Cereté, Colombia native spent time at the youth level with Red Bull Bragantino U-17s in Brazil as well as some time with Academia Alemana de Futbol Popayan.
