HARRISON, N.J. (March 5, 2024) – New York Red Bulls II have added Ecuadorian defender Jair Collahuazo on loan from C.S. Emelec, the club announced today. The loan will run through the 2024 MLS NEXT Pro season, pending receipt of his P-1 visa.
Collahuazo will be joining from C.S. Emelec of the Ecuadorian Serie A. The 18-year-old has featured for both the club’s U19 and U17 sides since joining them in 2022. The Ecuadorian started and appeared in 33 matches over two seasons, logging two goals in that span.
“Jair has many of the qualities we look for when bringing in a new player,” Head of Sport Jochen Schneider said. “We are excited to have him join the club and we look forward to assisting his development.”
In addition to his play domestically, the defender has also appeared in multiple competitions for the Ecuadorian Youth National team. Collahuazo most recently appeared and started in four matches of the 2023 U17 World Cup in Indonesia. The Ecuadorian also represented his nation at the 2023 South American U17 Championship, where he started all eight matches that he played in.
"We are very pleased to have Jair join us for this season,” said Head Coach Ibrahim Sekagya "His presence on the backline fits right in with our current structure and we are eager to see him out on the pitch.”
