HARRISON, N.J. (July 22, 2023) – New York Red Bulls II have added Panamanian midfielder Rafael Mosquera on loan from C.D. Plaza Amador until July of 2024, the club announced today.
“Rafael is going to fit right in with the team that we have built this season,” Sporting Director Denis Hamlett said. “The technical ability he possesses will be a great addition to the club as the regular season comes to a close”.
Mosquera, 18, appeared in 12 matches for C.D. Plaza Amador in Liga Panameña de Fútbol this season and tallied one goal in 675 minutes played. The midfielder logged over 1,300 minutes with the Panamanian side over the course of three seasons.
“We are always searching for players that can thrive within our system, and Rafael has many of the attributes that we look for,” Head Coach Ibrahim Sekagya said. “His skill in the attacking end will make him an important asset for the club going forward”.
The midfielder has featured for Panama’s Youth National Team on multiple occasions, with his most recent appearance being for the U23 side in the Maurice Revello Tournament last month. The Panamanian has made an appearance in eight matches and logged 258 minutes over four years, including caps in both the U15 and U20 CONCACAF Championships.
Mosquera has joined New York Red Bulls II for training and will participate in the 2023 MLS NEXT Pro season.
