HARRISON, N.J. (March 8, 2022) – New York Red Bulls II have signed forward Jonathan Filipe to a USL Championship contract pending league and federation approval, the club announced today.
Filipe, 23, scored 19 goals and tallied nine assists over 59 matches and 4,546 minutes at Fairfield University from 2018 to 2021.
“Jonathan has been a great addition,” Head Coach Gary Lewis said. “He has great energy and enthusiasm, speed and quality, and a front-foot mentality against the ball and with the ball.”
Filipe, a Red Bulls Academy product, most recently played for the U-23’s during the 2021 USL League Two season. He scored four goals and collected two assists during eight matches and 589 minutes.
“I’m looking forward to the year, we’ve been given a great opportunity here” Filipe said. “We have a great team; I’m looking forward to joining and taking part in what we aim to do.”
The Danbury, Connecticut, native played in all four matches for New York during the preseason, logging three starts, 315 minutes, and a team-leading three goals.
