New York Red Bulls II Signs Defender Aidan O’Connor to New MLS NEXT Pro Deal

HARRISON, N.J. (January 30, 2025) – New York Red Bulls II have signed defender Aidan O’Connor to a one-year MLS NEXT Pro contract through the 2025 season, the club announced today.

“We are happy to have Aidan [O’Connor] back with the team” said Head Coach Ibrahim Sekagya “He is a physical defender that brings strong leadership to our team.”

O’Connor made 24 appearances in his first year with Red Bulls II. He led the group in total minutes played with 2,122. The defender scored his first career MLS NEXT Pro goal against Crown Legacy FC on August 25. He also started in New York’s 2024 Lamar Hunt U.S. Open Cup matchup against NYCFC II.

The Grand Rapids, MI native made two appearances for the first team, making his MLS debut on June 1 against Orlando City SC.

Prior to New York, O’Connor was a two-year letterman at the University of Virginia where he made 31 career appearances and recorded one goal and two assists. In his senior year, he played in 17 matches and helped post six shoutouts. The defender led the Cavaliers to an NCAA Sweet-16 appearance and was named to the 2022 All-ACC Academic Team. Prior to Virginia, he played two seasons with Western Michigan University, where he made 22 appearances and recorded two goals.

Red Bulls selected O’Connor with the 12th pick of the 2024 MLS SuperDraft.
