New York Red Bulls II concluded its seventh season in the USL Championship with a 4-1 victory over Loudoun United FC on Saturday, October 30. Here are some notes and numbers from the 2021 NYRB II season:
New York earned a result in six of its final eight matches. It marked the first time since 2018 the club closed the season with results in six of their last eight matches.
Omar Sowe set a new career-high with eight goals, topping his previous high of seven from 2020.
Throughout the season, 11 Red Bulls Academy players saw time with NYRB II. Nine made appearances during the 2020 season, and six in 2019.
Jeremy Rafanello scored or assisted on 13 goals this season. He led the team with six assists and ranked second with seven goals. Only three times in club history has a player recorded seven-plus goals and six-plus assists in a single season (Florian Valot, 2017, Jared Stroud, 2018 & 2019).
Coming into the season, only four players in club history appeared in 30 or more matches in a single season. Three joined that group in 2021 (Jake LaCava, Daniel Edelman, and Emir Tombul).
Tombul led the team in minutes at 2,503, which ranks fifth in club history for minutes played in a single season.
Head Coach John Wolyniec finished the season with 97 career victories at the helm for New York.
