HARRISON, N.J. (May 7, 2019) – New York Red Bulls II defender Jordan Scarlett and forward Mathias Jørgensen have been named to the Week 9 USL Championship Team of the Week, the league announced today.
Scarlett played the full 90 minutes and made seven interceptions in the 5-0 victory over Birmingham Legion F.C, while, Jørgensen recorded a brace and had a total of three shots with two hitting the frame.
USL Championship Team of the Week
GK – Evan Newton, Indy Eleven: Newton recorded back-to-back shutouts to help the Eleven take a pair of points against the Tampa Bay Rowdies and North Carolina FC, while also moving into first all-time in regular-season shutouts in the Championship’s history with 41 overall.
D – Nate Shultz, LA Galaxy II: Schultz helped Los Dos record back-to-back shutouts during the week as he won 20 of 29 duels and made 20 recoveries against Las Vegas Lights FC and Austin Bold FC.
D – Jordan Scarlett, New York Red Bulls II: Scarlett helped lock down a shutout for the Red Bulls II against Birmingham Legion FC, making seven interceptions, winning 6 of 7 duels and recording 10 recoveries.
D – Ken Tribbett, Nashville SC: Tribbett went a perfect 6 of 6 in duels and 4 of 4 in aerial duels while recording four clearances and two interceptions in Nashville’s shutout victory against ATL UTD 2.
M – Wilmer Cabrera Jr., Rio Grande Valley FC: Cabrera scored the opening goal, finished with two shots on goal and had one key pass as the Toros took victory on the road against the Portland Timbers 2.
M – Daniel Johnson, Birmingham Legion FC: Johnson performed well in both Legion FC’s outings, completing 67 of 76 passes and recording six interceptions and 17 recoveries as well as a standout goal against Memphis.
M – Kenardo Forbes, Pittsburgh Riverhounds SC: Forbes had a goal and assist, completed 42 of 59 passes, made 12 recoveries and won 8 of 11 duels in the Hounds’ 2-2 draw with Charleston.
M – Chris Wehan, New Mexico United: Wehan struck twice in four minutes in the second half to send New Mexico to victory against San Antonio FC in front of 15,023 fans at Isotopes Park.
F – Jerome Kiesewetter, El Paso Locomotive FC: Kiesewetter’s notched his first two goals for El Paso and also completed 12 of 13 passes and won 4 of 5 duels in his side’s 2-0 road victory against Colorado Springs.
F – Irvin Parra, Las Vegas Lights FC: Parra had a goal and two assists to help power Lights FC’s 4-2 comeback victory against Sacramento Republic FC at Cashman Field.
F – Christian Chaney, Fresno FC: Chaney scored a pair of goals as the Foxes continued their undefeated start to the season with a 4-2 victory on the road against Real Monarchs SLC.
