Before his ninth birthday, he moved to a small New Jersey town called Harrison, N.J. Right across the neighborhood stood Red Bull Arena. He played at nearby Harrison High School, where he broke many records and earned many accolades.
New York Red Bulls II midfielder Omar Sowe signed his first professional contract with the club on August 2, 2019. During his first season, he recorded two goals in five appearances, scoring his first professional goal against Louisville City FC on September 21.
In his second season with New York Red Bulls II, Sowe has recorded two goals in only 139 minutes played, but no goal was bigger than the one he scored on Sunday afternoon.
The Harrison, New Jersey native scored his first goal inside Red Bull Arena and in the town that he has called home for many years.
“That moment meant a lot to me, scoring a goal in Red Bull Arena has always been a dream of mine and I’m glad I made it a reality on Sunday,” Sowe said.
Besides scoring his first goal in Red Bull Arena, with the goal he leveled the match against Pittsburgh Riverhounds, after the club had gone down shortly before.
“Scoring the equalizer was a great feeling. We as a team responded very well after going down early and it was a reward that was well earned by the boys,” Sowe said.
Sowe being a former Red Bulls Academy player has seen the impact the current academy players have made since the return to play began.
“I think it just shows that we are tough, hungry players that want to be the best we can be and take every opportunity that is given to us to showcase ourselves at a high level,” Sowe said.
Sowe has had a great start to the 2020 season and he is looking to continue that and help the club accomplish its goals for the season.
“The goal is to finish at the top of our group and win the USL Championship Final,” Sowe said.
