HARRISON, N.J. (May 11, 2020) – New York Red Bulls II will face Charlotte Independence in the first match of Division A play. The matchup is scheduled for Tuesday, May 12 at 8 PM ET, with coverage available on NYRB II Twitch Channel.
NYRB II had a solid opening week in the qualifying bracket, finishing in eighth place out of 32 teams. Omar Sowe opened up the competition for the club, defeating Loudoun United SC, 2-0, and advancing us to the Round of 16. New York Red Bulls midfielder Ben Mines would take over and complete a three-goal comeback in the second half to push the club past Philadelphia Union II. Sowe fell to Austin Bold FC in the quarterfinals but secured a spot in the top division and earned points in the opening week of the competition.
Charlotte Independence, who represents Germany, did not advance past the Round of 16 after losing to Greenville Triumph SC. NYRB II will be represented by Mike LaBelle for this matchup. The winner of the matchup will go on to face Qualifying Week winners, Rio Grande Valley FC, on Wednesday, May 13, at 8:30 PM ET.
