New York Red Bulls II travel to take on Birmingham Legion FC on Wednesday, October 16, with kick-off set for 8 p.m. ET. Here are three things to watch for:
Turn Things Around
With just two games remaining in the USL Championship regular season, NYRB II will be looking to get back to winning ways before the playoffs begin. The team has gone without a win in their last five with their recent 2-0 loss against North Carolina FC. “We’ve done a really good job in turning things around the last couple of years at the end and going on a good run, and there’s no reason why we can’t do that again,” Head Coach John Wolyniec said.
Opportunity to Capitalize
Birmingham Legion FC have picked up just five points in their last eight games and have been looking for a win since September 4. Birmingham most recently suffered a 4-0 loss to Hartford Athletic. Currently holding the tenth and final playoff spot in the Eastern Conference, Birmingham will be in need of points against NYRB II to keep their postseason soccer hopes alive.
Rinse and Repeat
NYRB II met Birmingham for the first ever time in May at MSU Soccer Park. New York had their way in the match, putting five unanswered goals into the back of the net. A brace from Mathias Jørgensen along with goals from Derrick Etienne Jr, Sean Nealis and Tom Barlow lifted NYRB II to a convincing 5-0 win.
Following Wednesday’s match, NYRB II will conclude their regular season with a trip to Segra Field to take on Loudoun United FC on Saturday October 19 with kick-off set for 7:30 p.m. ET.
