After Wednesday morning’s draw against Ottawa Fury FC, head coach John Wolyniec preached how much of a confidence booster that result was this early in the season.
“I think it is just more of a confidence builder, that even on the road when we are down, we are in the games and have a chance,” Wolyniec said.
New York Red Bulls II allowed a goal in the sixth minute -- the sixth time this season that they have allowed the first goal of the match. In the six matches when they have given up the first goal, Red Bulls II have only lost once.
“When you have that belief and you get those types of results in the season, it kind of just builds into the core of the team and the feeling of confidence in the group,” Wolyniec said.
NYRB II have a league-leading 22 goals scored this season, and even with the possible loss of Tom Barlow following his MLS contract with New York Red Bulls, they have found a way to keep scoring and finding results. The confidence seems to be building and Wolyniec believes that they have seen this before.
“I remember last year when things were going okay for us and we were a little bit indecisive, we had a couple results on the road that were ties that felt like wins and that really boosted us, and it propelled us into the playoffs,” Wolyniec said.
NYRB II are on a three-match unbeaten streak and are heading to face the Tampa Bay Rowdies, who sit in a tie with them for first place in the Eastern Conference.
“It kind of just adds to the belief that we have a good team, good players, and that we are going to be able to get results,” Wolyniec said.
