New York Red Bulls II were on an eight-game unbeaten streak going into their match against Pittsburgh Riverhounds SC on August 14. Despite getting on the board first, NYRB II lost their first match since June 22.
Head Coach John Wolyniec believes that the result will be more of a positive than a negative in the long run.
“A nice reality check in the middle of a run like that is important, and our guys have to recognize that there is still work to be done,” Wolyniec said.
NYRB II will need to bounce back quick, when they go on the road to take on Nashville SC on August 21. Wolyniec knows that the result against Pittsburgh was a tough one but believes it will be for the better.
“The frustration that I saw after from the faces of the guys proves that we have a high standard here and will continue to reach towards that. So, hopefully we can use it as a motivator,” Wolyniec said.
Nashville SC is only five points behind NYRB II in the Eastern Conference standings. NYRB II tied Nashville when they visited MSU Soccer Park back in March.
Following Wednesday’s match NYRB II will continue their road trip with matches against Swope Park Rangers on August 24 and Indy Eleven on September 4. New York will then return home on September 13 to face Charlotte Independence.
