With the return to play confirmed and date set, the USL Championship released the new competition structure on June 24, the same day that New York Red Bulls II returned to full-sided training.
“We are very excited to get the season back up and running,” NYRB II midfielder Kyle Zajec said. “There was a lot of uncertainty about the season, so we’re glad we finally know when we’ll be able to start playing.”
Zajec joined NYRB II in the beginning of 2019, after a four-year collegiate career at Georgetown University. Last season, he appeared in 20 matches and recorded four goals.
“Our goals will not change even with a new competition structure in place. In fact, I would say one of our goals is to not let the new league structure impact us,” Zajec said. “We will strive to finish tin the top spot of our division and as always our goal is to lift a trophy at the end of the season.”
The Westport, Connecticut native has been eager to get back on the pitch and has been excited to see his teammates after some time.
“It's been great to be able to see my teammates again. The transition from quarantine workouts to being back at the facility brought new energy and motivation to the group,” Zajec said.
The return to play date is set for July 11, NYRB II will be using the next three weeks to prepare for the new season and the new competition structure.
“With some things still left uncertain, we all want to make the most of this opportunity,” Zajec said.
