After scoring the equalizing goal against Portland on Saturday and helping hold the Timbers to one shot on goal, Aaron Long has been named as a starter in the MLS Team of the Week.
The goal was Long’s second of the season, and the tenth of his MLS career.
Long became the 36th player in franchise history to score double-digit goals during their Red Bulls career. He is also currently tied for second in MLS this season in goals scored by active defenders.
This is the second time this season that Long has received the honor. He was also in the TOTW Starting XI after helping lead New York to a 3-0 victory at Orlando City on April 24.
Lead by Long, In their last five matches across all competitions, New York has only allowed seven total shots on goal. During that span, they have only allowed two goals from open play.
The Red Bulls have an expected goals against of 4.42 on the road this year, which is third lowest in MLS.Â
This is the third-consecutive week that the Red Bulls have had a starter in the Team of the Week.
