Academy Match Recap: Bethesda SC / Baltimore Armour

U-19's vs. Bethesda

New York Red Bulls Academy teams kicked off the 2019 fall season, when they hosted Bethesda SC and Baltimore Armour at Red Bull Training Facility this past weekend.


Red Bulls U-19’s lost to Bethesda SC, 2-3.

The U-19’s got off to a great start, when Diogo Rebelo opened up the scoring in the 38th minute off a restart. In the beginning of the second half, Dountouma Toure increased the home sides lead thanks to an assist by Sal Esposito and Andy Elizaj. The U-19’s would give up three late goals to suffer their first loss of the season.


Red Bulls U-17’s defeated Bethesda SC U-17’s, 3-1.

 Captain Joey Zalinksy scored the opener for the U-17’s in the 26th minute to start their season in style, with an assist given to Serge Ngoma. At the end of the first half, midfielder Kenan Hot struck a volley from 25 yards out to double the lead. Forward Thomas Tulgar scored a great individual goal in the 69th minute to secure the three points for the U-17’s.


Red Bulls U-15’s defeated Bethesda SC U-15’s, 5-0.

Ezra Wildman scored two penalty kicks in the 33rd and 59th minute to put the U-15’s up by two. Five minutes later, Bento Estrela came off the bench to triple the lead off a great pass from Carter Smith. Estrela found Darsein Gabriel to put the game out of reach, while Shaquil Martinez found the fifth and final goal to start the U-15’s season on a strong note.


Red Bulls U-19’s defeated Baltimore Armour U-19’s, 4-0.

The U-19’s bounced back after their loss to Bethesda on Saturday, August 31, by defeating Baltimore Armour. Andrew Maia opened the scoring in the 28th minute off a pass from Sal Esposito. Dantouma Toure scored his second goal of the season in the 33rd minute off a cross from John Tolkin, who was named Man of the Match. Diogo Rebelo scored the third goal of the match, while Sal Esposito finished off the game with his first of the season.


Red Bulls U-17’s tie Baltimore Armour U-17’s, 1-1.

The U-17’s tied their second match of the season, despite having most of the chances during the match. Baltimore got on the board first in the 24th minute, but Serge Ngoma, Calvin Williams, and Edwin Melendez coming on at half-time re-energized the squad going into the second half. Cristian LoGrasso found the back of the net on a free-kick early in the second half, but despite having the ball for most of the game, the U-17’s could not find a game-winner. Kenan Hot was named the Man of the Match.


Red Bulls U-15’s tie Baltimore Armour U-15’s, 1-1.

The U-15’s went down in the first half, when Baltimore scored the opener in the 26th minute. The team showed great composure and found the equalizer two minutes later off a goal from Luciano Sanchez. Despite the momentum shifting, the team could not find the game-winner in the second half.


The U-13’s and U-14’s will begin their season when they take on New York City FC on Saturday, September 7, with kick-off’s set for 10 a.m. ET and 12 p.m. ET respectively.
