HARRISON, N.J. (April 15, 2025) – Red Bulls Academy U-16 and U-18 sides have completed group play at the 2025 Generations adidas Cup at IMG Academy in Bradenton, Florida.
The U-16s went 1-1-1 earning five points through the group stage. On Day 1, New York fought Nashville SC to a 0-0 draw. The group came up big in penalty kicks hitting all five shots. Goalkeeper Aidan Betances denied Nashville’s final penalty shot to give New York the 5-4 shootout win.
Moving to Day 2, the U-16’s faced FC Dallas. They went down 0-1 early but fought back to earn a 2-1 win thanks to a Dylan Logan Stewart free kick goal.
On Day 3, New York fell 0-2 to Vancouver Whitecaps FC.
The U-18s are undefeated through group play going 2-0-1. They faced Leicester City FC on Day 1. Leicester opened the scoring in the 14th minute. New York answered back shortly before halftime in the 30+2’ minute when Mame Mody Sy whipped in a cross onto the six-yard box to Dennis Nelich who placed a shot into the back of the net.
The match was level after the first 60 minutes and advanced to a penalty kick shootout. Nelich, Timothy Logan, Junior Diouf, and Matteo Zembrano found the back of the net from the spot, while goalkeeper Tobias Szewczyk made a big save on Leicester City’s fifth attempt.
On Sunday, New York earned a 1-0 victory over Minnesota United courtesy of a goal from Benny Rodriguez as he struck a shot from the top of the box into the bottom right corner.
U-18’s wrapped up group play against Vancouver Whitecaps earning a 2-0 win courtesy of a Mody Sy brace.
The U-18s have advanced to the knockout stages of the competition and will play Colorado Rapids on April 16 at 4:30 p.m. ET. Coverage for the match will be available on MLS YouTube
The U-16s will continue GA Cup play in the Premier Playoff consolation bracket and will face Chicago Fire FC on April 16 at 11:30 a.m. ET.
