TAMPA, Fla. – Louisville City FC forward Matt Fondy has been voted the USL Player of the Week for the 25th week of the 2015 season after he recorded four goals in two games to lead his side to a place in the USL Playoffs, and set a USL record for goals in a single season.
Fondy received 67 percent of the poll conducted by a national panel of independent media representing every USL market. Rochester Rhinos goalkeeper Brandon Miller finished second with 20 percent of the vote.
USL Team of the Week
- GK – Brandon Miller, Rochester Rhinos: Recorded his 12th shutout of the season, a USL single-season record, as the Rhinos claimed the USL Regular Season Championship with a draw in Richmond
- D – Phanuel Kavita, Real Monarchs SLC: Helped the Monarchs shut out OKC Energy FC in a 2-0 midweek win and scored in the side’s 3-2 victory against Arizona
- D – Brenton Griffiths, Orange County Blues FC: Had the game-tying goal and was solid defensively as the Blues earned their first win against the LA Galaxy II
- D – Braeden Troyer, Richmond Kickers: Helped shut down Rochester’s attack and was dangerous going forward as Richmond earned a draw against the Rhinos
- M – Bolu Akinyode, New York Red Bulls II: Scored the game-winner as the Red Bulls II rallied to take a 3-2 victory against Louisville in a potential playoff preview
- M – Maikel Chang, Charleston Battery: Flicked home a stoppage-time equalizer to salvage a point for the Battery in a 1-1 draw against Pittsburgh
- M – Brady Ballew, Tulsa Roughnecks FC: Scored the opening goal as the Roughnecks claimed their first win in the Black Gold Derby against OKC Energy FC
- M – Jorge Herrera, Charlotte Independence: Had a goal and assist as the Independence moved into the playoff positions with four points in two games against Wilmington
- F – Reshon Phillip, Toronto FC II: In his first start for the side, scored twice as TFC II earned a 3-2 victory against FC Montreal on Saturday afternoon
- F – Matt Fondy, Louisville City FC: Scored a hat trick against Harrisburg, and added another against New York, to set a USL record for goals in a single season
- F – Justin Braun, Sacramento Republic FC: Had both goals as Republic FC booked a return to the playoffs with a 2-1 win against Vancouver Whitecaps FC 2
