Derrick Etienne Jr. named to USL Team of the Week -

HARRISON, N.J. (April 12, 2016) – New York Red Bulls II midfielder Derrick Etienne Jr. has been named to the week three USL Team of the Week after having a hand in all four goals against Bethlehem Steel FC on April 10.

Etienne Jr., a native of Paterson, N.J., recorded one goal and two assists in Sunday’s match.

The Homegrown Player, playing in his second USL season, created the first goal of the game when his pressing won him the ball on an errant Bethlehem pass. The Haitian youth international whipped in a cross, which Steel FC defender Josh Yaro put into his own net to give New York the lead just 10 seconds into the match.

On the second goal, Brandon Allen passed to Etienne Jr. on the right flank. The midfielder spotted Alex Muyl making a run towards the top of the 18-yard-box and passed it off. His fellow Homegrown Player scored and Etienne Jr. had his first assist of the game.

In the 41st minute, a Bethlehem tackle brought down Etienne Jr. as he charged towards the penalty area. The referee awarded New York the advantage and the University of Virginia alumnus returned to his feet and played a ball out wide to Brandon Allen. Allen crossed to Anatole Abang at the back post to triple NYRB II’s lead before the half.

Finally, Junior Flemmings played Etienne Jr. through in the 71st minute. In a one-on-one with Steel FC goalkeeper John McCarthy, the midfielder calmly chipped the onrushing ‘keeper to earn his first goal of the season.

New York Red Bulls II return to action this weekend at Red Bull Arena on Sunday, April 17, against the 2015 USL champion Rochester Rhinos at 4 p.m. ET (WATCH: NewYorkRedBulls.com/Live; TICKETS: NewYorkRedBulls.com/2/tickets).
