DESERT DIAMOND CUP RECAP: Red Bulls drop final preseason tune up

TUCSON, Ariz. (February 25, 2017) – The New York Red Bulls fell in their 2017 Desert Diamond Cup finale against New England Revolution, 2-0.


New York’s starting lineup featured four MLS rookies, one unsigned draft pick, three USL players, two trialists and one Red Bulls academy player.


The four MLS players included goalkeeper Rafael Diaz, center back Hassan Ndam, Homegrown midfielder Arun Basuljevic and midfielder Zeiko Lewis, who signed with MLS prior to the 2017 MLS SuperDraft.


Kelyn Rowe opened the scoring for New England in the 52nd minute, burying a chipped shot from the top of the box, and Lee Nguyen put the match out of reach with a goal in the 89th minute.


With the loss, New York finishes Desert Diamond Cup with a 0-2-1 record.


The group that has been training in Tucson will depart Arizona tomorrow to rejoin the rest of the team in New Jersey.


New York Red Bulls will next face Vancouver Whitecaps FC in the second leg of Scotiabank CONCACAF Champions League on March 2. Kickoff is set for 10 p.m. ET.
